The Sociology Department at the University of Memphis invites applications for a tenure track faculty position to be filled at the Assistant Professor rank beginning in Fall 2025. Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field no later than August 2025. Area of specialization is Urban Sociology with an emphasis on quantitative methods, and candidates will teach in and be an affiliate faculty in the Urban Affairs Ph.D. program. The appointment is for a 2-2 teaching load. The hire would be expected to teach courses in urban sociology, quantitative methods, and interdisciplinary urban theory.

 

Preference will be given to a scholar who will be active in the pursuit of grant funding. The Center for Community Research and Evaluation, an on-campus Center that is externally funded and connected with the Sociology Department, provides opportunities for collaboration on externally funded work. The University of Memphis has recently been designated as a Carnegie R1 institution. The University is committed to maintaining this status and there is strong support for new faculty developing their scholarly agendas.

 

The Sociology Department offers the B.S. and M.A. degrees and is a partner in the interdisciplinary Urban Affairs Ph.D. program, housed in the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy. The faculty in Sociology teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and work with graduate research assistants. The successful candidate will join an exciting and collaborative department in a dynamic urban university.
