The Department of Sociology at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) is seeking to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a start date of August 2025. The position is one of a three-line cluster hire in public health, broadly defined, together with the Department of Anthropology and Department of Economics. The CU Boulder Department of Sociology is searching for a medical sociologist and/or a social demographer with strong interests and expertise in population and health inequalities. We are also especially interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: race and ethnicity, international migration, class and stratification. The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses that could contribute to a new Public Health major at CU Boulder. Although not required, we prefer candidates who can teach graduate-level courses in population issues and demographic methods and/or who can teach graduate-level statistics.
Faculty in the Department carry a 2-1 teaching load. Applicants must have a PhD in Sociology or comparable field. ABD candidates will be considered but the PhD degree must be conferred by the start date of the appointment. Applicants are expected to show evidence of high-quality research and evidence of or potential for securing outside funding. Advanced Assistant Professor applicants are expected to have an established record of high-quality publications. A background check is required.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
