The O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs (O’Neill) at Indiana University- Bloomington invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured open rank position (i.e., at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank) in the general field of arts administration and cultural affairs. Preference will be given to candidates for appointment at the Assistant Professor level, but exceptionally strong candidates at more senior levels will be considered.
Candidates must have completed (or expect to complete prior to appointment) a Ph.D. in economics, sociology, political science, public administration, public affairs, public policy, urban planning, arts administration, or related disciplines/fields. Social scientists researching relevant topics, such as digital markets and platform economies for creative workers and products, copyright and intellectual property of creative goods, cultural entrepreneurship, cultural policy, cultural planning, organizational theory and management for arts organizations, and artist labor markets are all encouraged to apply. Research in non-U.S. or comparative contexts is welcome.
We seek a strong researcher with the ability to advise doctoral students and achieve a nationally competitive program of research, including external funding. Candidates are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in arts administration and cultural affairs. The position is expected to work closely with faculty at the Center for Cultural Affairs – an internationally known research center aimed at advancing the understanding of the place of arts and culture in public life.
The standard teaching assignment for tenure track/tenured faculty is four courses per year. Assistant professors are eligible for promotion and tenure no later than the sixth year of appointment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The expected start date is August 1, 2025.
