Faculty Positions in Sociology

The Division of Social Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology seeks to fill positions in Sociology.  We invite applications for Assistant Professor rank.  Appointment at the Associate Professor / Full Professor rank may also be considered for candidates with outstanding academic credentials and international recognition.  Candidates may work in any of the major areas in Sociology.  

Applicants who work on cross-disciplinary topics with other social science subjects, and/or who may contribute to the development of computational or quantitative social science in the Division are especially welcome.  We also encourage applications from applicants in adjacent social science disciplines whose research focus and/or methodology has a strong sociological component.

Applicants should have a PhD degree by the time of employment.  The successful candidates are expected to teach at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Application Procedure

Applications should be sent electronically via Interfolio (http://apply.interfolio.com/151600).  Application packages should include a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, a sample publication, and teaching records.  Applicants for Assistant Professor rank should prepare 3 letters of recommendation and send them via interfolio.  For Associate Professor / Full Professor rank, references will only be solicited upon mutually agree to proceed with the appointment process. 

Review of applications will commence on 1 October 2024 and will continue until the positions are filled.

Starting salaries will be highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including medical / dental package and annual leave will be provided.  Housing benefits will also be provided where applicable.  Initial appointment at Assistant Professor / Associate Professor rank will normally be made on a 3-year contract.  A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract. Appointment at Professor rank will be on a substantive basis.
