Our department has a reputation for being both collegial and supportive without sacrificing ambition – Notre Dame Sociology is the fastest-rising department in the country, according to the U.S. News and World Report.
The Department of Sociology at Notre Dame has long standing excellence in the sociology of culture, education, movements and politics, religion, and theory. In recent years we have established strengths in several sociological areas including gender and family, global and transnational, race, and stratification. The faculty embraces a range of innovative methodological approaches and has expertise that covers the globe.
We especially welcome applications from scholars who contribute to one or more existing areas of departmental strengths listed above while also helping to expand into new areas of expertise. Although not required, we also welcome applications that align with the University of Notre Dame’s Strategic Framework (https://strategicframework.nd.edu/) and related initiatives in poverty, health & wellbeing, ethics, democracy, the arts, or data & computational science: https://strategicframework.nd.edu/initiatives/.
